　　•小乔木或丛生灌木状，树形较低矮，高1.5～4.5m, 在福建(武夷山)一带可高达6～8m, 树冠圆球形。东南和华南各地长势旺盛，北部长势较弱至中等，分枝短而密。叶二型：春叶宽椭圆形或椭圆形，长7～9cm, 宽3.3～3.6cm, 长宽比约2.3; 基部楔形或狭楔形；先端突尖；全缘或近全缘。秋叶卵状椭圆形或卵状披针形，长8～10cm, 宽3 .3～4cm;基部宽楔形至近圆形；先端渐尖；叶缘至少中部或上部1/3以上有细尖锯齿。侧脉7～9对，网脉较明显，主脉和侧脉间的交角很大。叶柄长4～8(10)mm。幼叶黄绿色或略带淡紫红色，成年叶色较淡。

Leaves 2-shaped, those in spring wide elliptic or elliptic,7-9cm×3.3-3.6cm, base cuneate or narrow cuneate,apex cuspidate, margin entire or nearly so; those in autumn ovate-elliptic or ovate-lanceolate, 8- 10 cm×3.3-4 cm, base wide cuneate to rounded, apex acuminate, margin minute serrate from middle or from above 1/3; secondary veins 7-9 pairs, the angle between the primary and secondary veins usually obtuse; petiole 4-8(10) mm long; young leaves yellow green or purple red, mature leaves is much slight.

Flower

　　•花枝较短，通常长约6～8 cm, 仅顶部1～3节各具花芽1对，稀2对；一般每花芽有花7～10朵，圆锥花序中的花朵数可多达12～22朵，密集。花冠斜展，直径5～7mm, 乳白色至淡黄白色 (RHS-CC<2B), 深秋和早春花期花色可深至乳黄色 (RHS-CC 6A～6B); 裂片倒卵形或椭圆形，长3～3.5 mm, 宽2mm;雄蕊2,黄色；花梗长7～10(13)mm。秋冬季节新梢之花直径可达10～17mm, 但花数较少；裂片肥厚，内扣。雌蕊完全败育，呈叶状或有时呈花瓣状。花期以秋季和春季为主，花量较少，常零星开放。秋季盛花期：9月下旬至10月中旬。

　　•Flower twigs short, 6-8 cm long; only 1 to 3 nodes near apex with 1,rarely 2 pairs of flower buds,each producing 7- 10 flowers, sometimes to 12-22 flowers in panicle, dense; Pedicels 7- 10(13)mm long. Corolla inclined, cream-white to light yellow white (RHS-CC<2B),5-7 mm,cream yellow(RHS-CC 6A-6B)in early spring or late autumn; corolla lobes obovate or elliptic,3- 3.5 mm×2 mm; stamens 2, yellow; pistils abortive; the flowers on young branchlets general are much bigger, 10- 17 mm diameter, but the quantity of flower is a small; corolla lobes more thick, and incurved; pistils leaf-like or petal-like. Main blooming in autumn, last to next spring.
