•小乔木或大灌木，高达3～6m; 树冠近圆球形或长圆形；树皮浅灰色，皮孔较少，菱形。分枝较少、粗壮，新枝绿色或带淡紫色。长势较旺盛；叶长椭圆状，长8～11 cm, 宽2.5～3.5 cm, 长宽比约3.0,革质；叶面较皱、粗糙，略有光泽，向内凹陷而呈宽“V”字形；基部楔形；先端短尖或渐尖；全缘，叶缘微波状；侧脉7～9对，网脉清晰。叶柄长8～11mm, 黄绿色或微带紫红。新叶稍带紫红色。

•花芽1～3对，多为2对，通常1对先开放；每花序有花6～7(9)朵。花朵较繁密。香气较淡。花梗长6～7(9)mm, 黄绿色。花色初花期橙黄色，盛花期转橙红色，极为艳丽(RHS-CC N25A～25A)。花冠斜展，阔钟形，直径(6)7～9mm; 花冠裂片较圆阔，一般为倒卵圆形，长约2.5mm, 宽约2mm, 较薄；雄蕊2, 橙黄色；雌蕊完全败育，不结实。花期与硬叶丹桂相近，但开花比较集中。花期9月下旬至10月上旬。
