•小乔木，高达4～12m; 树冠圆球形。树皮灰白色，皮孔密集。长势旺盛。叶卵状椭圆形或椭圆形，长8～10(12)cm, 宽4～4 . 5(5)cm, 长宽比约2.6; 厚革质，光滑，叶面极平展，深绿色而有光泽；基部圆形或宽楔形；先端长渐尖或尾尖，叶尖平伸或略下弯；全缘，极稀上部具有少数细锯齿；侧脉8～11对，明显下陷，网脉较明显；叶柄长7～9mm, 略带淡紫红色。新叶淡紫红色。
•Tree to 4-12 m; crown ellipsoidal. Bark grey white, lenticels dense; strong vigorous. Leaves ovate- elliptic or elliptic, 8-10(12) cm x 4-4.5(5) cm , leathery; dark green and smooth above, lustrous, base rounded or broadly cuneate, apex long acuminate or caudate, flat or slightly leaning, margin entire or rarely slightly serrate near apex; secondary veins 8-11 pairs, impressed remarkably, reticulate veins obvious; petioles 7-9 mm long, slightly purple red; young leaves light purple red.

Flower
•花枝长10～12cm, 有花芽4～5节，节间较短。每节有花芽2～3对，每花序有花5～6朵。花密集，浓香。花梗黄绿色或紫红色，结果后变紫红色。花浅黄色 (RHS-CC9C～11D)。 花冠斜展，钟形，直径5～7mm; 裂片椭圆形，长2.5～3 mm, 宽1 . 5～2mm; 雌蕊发育正常，花后结实。每年开花1～2次，以第一次最为集中。结实量大。果实较小，长椭圆形，基部变狭，顶端钝，上部有稀疏白色斑点，长1.5～1.7 cm, 径约 0.7～0.8cm, 果梗长约0.8cm。 花期9月下旬至10月上旬，果期翌年4月。
•Flower twigs 10-12 cm, with 4-5 nodes having flower buds; internodes fairly short; flower buds 2-3 pairs per node, each producing 5-6 flowers, blossom dense, strong scented; pedicels yellow green to purple red, becoming purple red after bearing; corolla inclined, campanulate, 5-7 mm diameter, light yellow (RHS- narrow ellipsoidal, 1.5-1.7 cm x 0.7-0.8 cm, base narrow; Pedicels 0.8 cm long; maturing in April next year.

Remark
•叶较宽而厚，浓绿色，极平展，基部宽圆，花较小、花色较浅。潢川金桂 ‘Huangchuan Jingui’是最常见的结实品种，长江流域各地常见栽培。
•Leaves fairly wide and thick, dark green, very smooth, with rounded bases. It is the most common fruiting cultivar in the valley of Yangtze River.
